Metallica formed in Los Angeles in 1981 and went on to become one of the best-selling bands of all time, with over 125 million records sold worldwide. Their touring history spans four decades, from intimate Bay Area club shows in the early 1980s to stadium headliners of the 21st century.

The most collectible Metallica shirts come from the 1986–1992 golden era: the Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, and Black Album tour cycles. Shirts from this period typically feature Brockum or Screen Stars tags and single-stitch construction.
