Brockum Tags: Dating 80s–90s Vintage Concert T-Shirts

How to date late-80s and early-90s concert tees by the Brockum merchandising tag — pre-tag Canada marks, silver Collection/Group, Worldwide windows, oddball variants — then shop authenticated Brockum-tag shirts from our 577-piece catalog (403 available).

What Brockum was

Brockum was an official concert merchandise company — a licensor — not a blank mill. It grew out of Krimson Corp. in 1974 (England, then New Jersey), later passing through Concert Productions International and Labatt ownership. Brockum put major metal and stadium tours on third-party blanks: Metallica, AC/DC, Slayer, Rolling Stones, Def Leppard, Pink Floyd, and more.

Think of Brockum as the 1980s / early-90s stadium-merch default that Giant later took over for mid-90s grunge and alternative, and as a different lane from Winterland (Grateful Dead / classic rock). A Brockum collar on a claimed 2008 reprint is anachronistic. A Brockum Group or Worldwide mark on a 1989–1993 thrash tour shirt is period-correct and highly collectible.

Use this leaf with the tags-by-decade guide and the authentication reference — tag alone is necessary, not sufficient. Pair it with stitch, print technique, and artwork era.

1974–1987 — pre-tag / Canada RN window

For much of Brockum’s early life there was no woven “Brockum” neck label. Official tour stock often carried a generic Made in Canada mark (RN#69761 class) while the license lived in the print copyright stack. Collectors who insist every mid-80s official shirt must say “Brockum” on the collar will mis-reject real pieces.

Teaching point: absence of the word Brockum on the collar does not automatically make a mid-80s tour shirt a parking-lot tee. Read the print license, tour art, single-stitch hems, and blank country together.

1988–1990 — silver Collection / Group

After the late-80s ownership shift, silver woven tags reading Brockum Collection or Brockum Group appear. Both show up early; Collection fades and Group becomes the common read into the early 90s. This is the collar generation most collectors picture when they say “Brockum tag.”

~1989 also produced short-run sewn in Dominican Republic variants. They look odd next to USA/Canada stock and get called fake too quickly. Treat DR Brockum as rare-but-often-real: verify print aging and stitch before rejecting.

1991–1994 — Worldwide + date ceiling

The black Worldwide family (~1991–1994) is the hard collector window for late Brockum. Lollapalooza-era ~1991 still leans Brockum before Giant takes the mid-90s grunge/alt default. Oddballs in the Worldwide series (Jamaica, blue, woven, China) confuse buyers — some are real production variants. Treat China Worldwide as photo + print verification required, not an automatic fake stamp.

Operations wind down through the mid-90s. A common shorthand says Brockum “ended in 1994”; the more precise collector note is that Nice Man (Minnesota) buys the business out around 1997. Post-1997 collars that merely look like Brockum need extra skepticism — and a skull-era Giant is never a 1989 Brockum original.

Brockum vs Giant vs Winterland

Rough defaults (not laws): 1980s metal and stadium tours default to Brockum; Lollapalooza ~1991 still leans Brockum; from the early/mid-90s Giant dominates grunge and alternative tour stock; Grateful Dead and classic-rock official merch defaults to Winterland. Overlap years exist — especially Metallica Black Album through Load — so always read the actual collar.

A Winterland timeline is coming when photo-reviewed stock supports it — plain text for now, no leaf URL. Full method and era tables live on authentication.html and the decade tag guide.

Fake and misread Brockum tells

When in doubt, walk the full checklist on how we authenticate and how to authenticate vintage concert t-shirts. Tag is one pillar; stitch and print are the others.

Shop shirts with a Brockum tag

This is the wedge a photo timeline cannot copy: authenticated PDPs that already carry a Brockum story. ID 3 (Slayer — Demon Logo Tour) is the live API tag_brand=Brockum in-stock row. ID 17 Blind Melon is the other API Brockum row (sold archive). The rest are title-confirmed Brockum cards whose live PDP chrome already says Tag: Brockum — labeled honestly until the API field backfill lands.
